Teacher Feature!! Ms. Angelica Vieira
We are thrilled to have Ms. Angelica return to the CEDS team as an assistant 2’s teacher this school year. Although Angelica has a wide range of experience working with children all her life and is a mother herself, she only recently found her passion for teaching preschoolers. She grew up in Brazil and worked many years tutoring children before starting her own children’s theatrical company called “Agitando a Festa.” The bulk of her professional career has been dedicated to working in the news production industry. She began her career at Globo Network in Brazil. In 1987, she moved to New York to open up an independent news production company called The Brazilian Network-NY (TBN-NY) where she was an Executive Producer, Presenter, and video editor. She decided last year to become a preschool teacher and has not looked back! We asked her some questions to give you a taste of how special she is!
1. What made you decide to become a teacher?
I love little children and I believe I can communicate and connect well with them. When my son was in preschool and I was working as a news producer, I spent a lot of time volunteering at his school. I came in for career day and then began spending more and more time at the school because I enjoyed it so much. The teachers there all told me I was great with the children and could be a teacher myself. All these years later, I remembered that and now that’s what I am!
2. What excites you most about working at CEDS?
Everyone who works at CEDS has a warm and welcoming face. I love the environment here and the physical beauty of the building. I fell in love with this school immediately!
3. What have you learned since you began teaching here in the Fall?
All the courses I have taken since I started here have been enriching. It’s wonderful that the school provides amazing professional development for the teachers. Learning to teach yoga was the cherry on top and I’m so excited about sharing this with the children! I’m lucky to learn new things every day!
4. What are your three favorite things to do outside of teaching?
I enjoy practicing yoga, playing pickleball, and walking along the Hudson River Park near where I live.
